Sheffield & District Law Society Awards 2020
Sheffield & District Law Society’s Annual Dinner will be awarding the best and brightest this year!
This year the society have decided to do something different and as part of its Annual Dinner 2020 and we will be giving out four awards that will be presented to the winners on the evening of the banquet.
Members of the Society should put forward their nominations and these will then be voted on by a panel of judges who are unconnected to the awards.
This will be a celebration of Sheffield’s brightest and best lawyers, and their achievements over the past year!

Who’s flying the flag for Sheffield & District and making a notable impact in regional, national and international markets? This award is open to firms that are based in South Yorkshire and are members of the Sheffield & District Law Society .
They will be judged according to the following criteria:
- Training initiatives and accreditations received or being worked towards – For example, Investors in People
- Demonstrable appreciation or recognition by clients
- Dedication to development and welfare of staff
- Client initiatives that you feel have set the firm apart from the rest
- Contribution to the legal community
- Recognition received from other firms
- Contribution to the community including pro-bono work
- Please remember to state how many partners you have based in Yorkshire

Open to partners of law firms across Sheffield & District and members of the Sheffield & District Law Society . This award will be judged according to the following criteria:
- Evidence of contribution to the success of their practice in the last 12 months’, both in fee earning and other areas, such as marketing or setting up new projects which have benefitted the firm
- Demonstrable expertise in field of work
- Evidence of a growing reputation or maintaining their standing as a leader in their field
- Dedication to clients
- Demonstrable work to help/mentor junior staff
- Contribution to the community, including pro-bono work

This award is open to any teams who work within the Sheffield & District area and are members of the Sheffield & District Law Society. They will be judged according to the following criteria:
- Entrants should show how they perform essential legal work for their employer
- They should be able to demonstrate how they add value to the business or organisation
- Examples of a clear commitment to excellence, quality and innovation
- How has their work been recognised and appreciated by the local legal and business community?
- How have they positively contributed to the general legal community?

Open to all Fee-earners based in the Sheffield & District area and members of the Sheffield Law Society. The winner of this award will be decided by the judging panel prior to the awards ceremony
The judges will be looking for a fee-earner who has made outstanding contributions to the region within the past 12 months. They will have contributed to the success of their practice, be a strong team player and will have demonstrated that they are committed to excellence in all that they do

Rules and Guidelines
How to nominate
Please outline, in no more than 1,000 words, specific achievements relating to the nominee’s career, paying particular attention to the category criteria (CVs will not be accepted).Nominees are judged by their achievements in the category for which they have been nominated.
For all awards, achievements outside of the category will be taken into account, including non-legal work, contributions to the community and pro-bono work.
Multiple entries are permitted.
You are welcome to nominate yourself to win an award.
Rules and guidelines
The decision of the judging panel is at its absolute discretion and is final. There is no right of appeal against any decision.
The judging panel will not be able to provide any feedback at any stage of the judging process. In judging, they will use their skill and judgment, considering information that is put to them in the nomination form and supporting documentation, and their knowledge and experience of the legal profession and of the wider community.
Nominations will not be accepted that are more than 1,000 words. Appendices and any other additional materials will not be accepted. The presentations to all finalists in each category will take place at the awards dinner on 28th February 2020
All finalists will be invited to attend (at their own cost) and will be given priority ticket allocation.
Closing date for nominations is 16th January 2020. All nominees will be notified whether they are through to the final by 31st January 2020. Please could all nominators and nominees ensure that the date of the awards is in their diaries.
All nominations are treated as entirely confidential.
Judge appointment process
The panel is carefully selected to ensure the selection process is fair and objective and includes experts from across the industry. The judges are bound by a strict confidentiality agreement and are required to declare any conflict of interest in entries over which they deliberate and to stand aside from deliberations concerning those entries.
Judges give their time for free to judge the awards.
