We are the Sheffield & District Law Society, the professional association for solicitors practising in Sheffield, Barnsley, Rotherham and the surrounding area. We aim to support the legal profession locally by offering training, social events, and a library and information service, and by representing the interests of those who register for our professional membership service. Membership is available on an individual or corporate basis. We assist members of the public by helping them to find a suitable local solicitor, although the Society does not offer legal advice. We can also help you to trace a solicitor or firm where there has been a change of name, merger or closure. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us. The Society’s administrative office, the Law Society Hall and the Law Library are located in the heart of Sheffield’s legal quarter, overlooking Sheffield Cathedral.
Opening Hours: Monday to Thursday: 10:am – 4:00pm Friday to Sunday: Closed For general enquiries, please contact us on 0114 698 7155 or at

Please note: The Society and its staff are not able to provide legal advice. Here are a number of frequently asked questions that we have compiled. In all situations we advise that you seek independent legal advice.
Access to legal advice should not depend on the size of your wallet. Pro bono legal services in the UK provide free, professional legal assistance to members of the public who need it most — offered voluntarily by qualified solicitors, barristers, and law firms who give their time and expertise at no charge. Whether you are facing a housing dispute, an employment issue, a family matter, or a problem with benefits, pro bono support can provide the guidance and representation that might otherwise be out of reach
We have complied a list of firms that have either changed names, merged or closed completely. This list disregards conversions to LLP/Ltd status. "Successor" does not necessarily mean the firm that purchased part of the old firm. Information compiled from local records and may be incomplete.
