About the Society
The Sheffield District Incorporated Law Society is the professional association for solicitors practising in Sheffield, Rotherham and the surrounding area.
Founded in 1875, the Society exists to represent and promote the interests of solicitors in the area and to support the work of the profession locally. The society represents over 400 members.
Location
The Society's administrative office, the Law Society Hall and the Law Library are located in the heart of Sheffield's legal quarter overlooking Sheffield Cathedral.
Opening Hours
Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm
Services to the Profession
The main role of the Society is to support the profession locally. Offering training, a library and information service, social events and representing members interests. Membership of Sheffield District Law Society is available either on an individual or corporate basis
Services to the Public
The Society is able to offer advice to members of the public on the following matters:
- Finding a local solicitor with a particular specialism
- Tracing a solicitor or firm where there has been a change of name, merger or closure

Services to Members
We are pleased to offer our members the following services:
- The provision of a library and information service geared to the needs of local practitioners
- Help with research,enquiries and guidance with electronic resources
- Range of CPD courses covering all aspects of practice
- The arrangement of ad hoc meetings and presentations on matters of interest to the profession
- Opportunity to meet with other solicitiors within the area via our social events including the Annual Dinner
- The provision, in conjunction with CRA Consulting, of a legal recruitment service
- Liaision with and representation to the Law Society on professional matters
- The publication of a regular Bulletin and Newsletter containing news and articles of special interest to local practitioners
- The provision of a meetings room available for hire by member firms
