Chris Fry welcomes next generation for Law Society
Kevin Poulter has been welcomed into his role as head of the Next Generation group at Sheffield & District Law Society by Chris Fry, current Vice President of the society and partner at Wake Smith & Tofields.
Kevin, a solicitor, also at Wake Smith & Tofields, will take on the role to promote the efforts of the group as it looks to support the growth of a strong Sheffield and South Yorkshire based legal network, from students to qualified professionals, making South Yorkshire the first choice for all legal work.
The Next Generation group launched in January 2009 and is one of three specialist groups within the Sheffield & District Law Society.
Chris Fry, partner and head of the industrial diseases department at Wake Smith & Tofields said: “The Next Generation group was formed because Sheffield Law Society recognised the need to engage better with aspiring young legal professionals and to communicate a range of information on events and training with young audiences.
“We launched the group in January this year and Kevin was a key driving force behind the group’s success, helping to organise meetings and generate relevant ideas for seminars and training workshops. I am delighted a fellow colleague at Wake Smith & Tofields is able to take the reins to continue the development of the next generation of legal talent in the city.”
Kevin Poulter added: “The Next Generation group has impressed me from the start, not least because it extends beyond junior lawyers to include law students from Sheffield’s two universities, paralegals, trainees, legal executives and barristers.
“We have grand plans over the next 12 months to take the Next Generation group further and help to develop the competitiveness of legal talent in the region. This will include developing our skills workshops and the introduction of a networking club called ‘First Thirstdays’.”
Chris Fry will be elected to President of the Sheffield & District Law Society in April 2010.
