Midsummer Masquerade
09 June 2009
On Friday 5th June 2009, Sheffield & District Law Society held their Midsummer Masquerade event at Kenwood Hall Hotel, Sheffield. The event was attended by over 125 people who braved the torrential rain to be treated to a superb evening of entertainment.
Inspired by the masquerade balls of revolutionary France, the Kenwood Hall Hotel made the perfect backdrop for an evening of sumptuous summer fun. Guests were greeted with a welcome drink, kindly provided by AON and were entertained by a string trio who delighted the guests with renditions of well know classical pieces, adding an air of elegance to the evening. Guests congregated in one of the four rooms available, each offering a unique atmosphere for the event and providing views over the stunning grounds of the venue. The rich sounds of classical music permeated the evening air as guests enjoyed the more sedate part of the evening prior to the food being served. A traditional buffet was presented and guests enjoyed a delicious range of hot and cold finger food, all of which was washed down over the course of the evening with copious amounts of fine wine and beer.
The evening was then stepped up with an excellent disco, playing the latest chart toppers and some old favourites, causing the revellers to dance well into the night. By the time the event closed, there were still large groups of people thoroughly enjoying themselves. Paul Szabo, chair of the Social Committee said “I am so pleased with how well the evening has gone. Once again, the Sheffield legal community have come together to support the local law society and this event. My thanks go to everyone who attended and I hope that they all had a great night.
I would like to thank the sponsors, AON Risk Services, CA Law, CRA Legal, Just Costs Solicitors and Wesleyan for Lawyers for all their support with the event. Finally, I would like to thank the other members of the social committee, Graeme Rothwell, Katherine Powell, Lance Dodgson and Melanie Hadwin for their hard work and tireless effort in putting the evening together. They are an excellent team to work with”. The Social Committee have recently upped the stakes in the events laid on by the Society. Last year, the packed social calendar included the hugely successful Halloween Crush and a Summer Barbeque. “Our events keep growing and growing” said Paul “We are already working on the next few events which we hope will be as well attended and as successful”.
