Next Generation Group Launch

THE Sheffield and District Law Society is looking to the future with the launch of a new group aimed specifically at encouraging and developing the city’s next generation of legal experts.
The Next Generation Group will be launched with an official reception at Sheffield Town Hall on January 19.
The aim of the new organisation is to bring together all aspects of the city’s young legal talent, including law students from Sheffield’s two universities, the Legal Practice course, paralegals, trainees, solicitors, legal executives and barristers.
Capitalising on the skills and experience of all aspects of the South Yorkshire legal profession, the Next Generation Group will:
• Support the growth of a strong Sheffield and South Yorkshire based legal network, from Students to qualified professionals, making South Yorkshire the first choice for all legal work
• Unite all strands of the local legal profession in winning and retaining all elements of legal work in South Yorkshire
• Recruit and keep the best Sheffield graduates into the South Yorkshire legal system – and encourage them to stay in the city
• Build closer and long lasting bonds with businesses, again encouraging work to stay in the city
The new group will provide mentoring and practical work experience as well as specialist training for South Yorkshire’s legal students.
It will develop skills workshops on subjects such as presentation, interviewing, time management, negotiation, mediation and media training.
It will also provide regular networking events for all of South Yorkshire’s young lawyers, giving them the opportunity to learn more about how they can help contribute to the growth of their own practices.
