Value for Money – Practicing Certificate?

The Law Society Group which incorporates both the Law Society and the Solicitors’ Regulation Authority (SRA), have issued a report and a consultation on the level of fees for the annual solicitors’ practicing certificate.  Please see attached.

As is typical of the SRA, if not the Law Society, the timescale is incredibly tight, all responses need to be in by midnight Sunday 2nd July.

The Report is informative and does tell us where our money is going (60% + on various forms of regulatory activity).  The good news is the proposal to reduce the Practicing Certificate fee by £12.00 in 2018.

I encourage everyone to read the Report if possible but certainly to respond to the consultation, there are only three questions so it should take more than a few minutes.  You can access the consultation here: http://www.lawsociety.org.uk/pc-fee-2017 .

The Sheffield and District Law Society will submit a response, if you want to make your thoughts known so that these can be gathered into a group response please email Hollie Hemmens holliehemmens@hlwkeeblehawson.co.uk
