This is an exciting opportunity to gain valuable insight into the voluntary legal advice sector and promote and engage the local legal profession.
The Yorkshire Legal Support Trust (YLST) forms part of the Access to Justice Foundation (the Foundation); a registered charity which receives, raises and distributes financial resources to help provide free legal assistance to those who need it most. Our Chairman is Lord Peter Goldsmith QC.
This role presents a chance for interested individuals to sit on a profession-led committee that will help promote and facilitate the work of the Foundation across Yorkshire.
The role will include:
- Assessing applications for funding from advice charities in the region and advising the Board of the Foundation on how to distribute monies raised in the local area.
- Promoting and coordinating the YLST’s fundraising events in the area.
- Engaging the local legal profession in the work and events of the YLST.
Committee members will report to the Chair of the Committee, who will feedback to the Chief Executive and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation. Instruction, help and advice will be provided throughout. Meetings of the committee will take place as necessary throughout the year and will be held predominantly in Leeds.
We are looking for legal and advice sector professionals with a strong commitment to access to justice and good local knowledge of both the local legal profession and the advice sector.
Committee members should have experience, knowledge or interest in one or more of the following areas:
- Strategically promoting and facilitating access to justice across the region.
- Grant assessment and disbursement.
- Creating a strong network of legal professionals to help promote the work of YLST and reach new audiences.
- Coordinating and promoting fundraising events.
Participation in the committee’s activities is designed to be flexible in order to allow members to contribute as much at their other commitments allow. Committee members will be expected to participate actively in at least one of the committee’s activities.
The committee will meet once a year (or as necessary) to assess grant applications and subsequently make recommendations to the Foundation’s board.
Promotion of the YLST’s events and activities along with engagement of the local legal profession will be continual.
Coordination of the YLST’s events will peak around event dates (event dates will be decided with the input of committee members). Please see http://www.ylst.org.uk/events for details of upcoming events.
If you are interested in sitting on the YLST committee please send a CV and short statement of intent to Ruth Daniel at firstname.lastname@example.org.
